Workshop

The Shoebox Experiment

What happens if you take another look?

This interactive workshop explores how our perceptions and assumptions can be challenged.
And the surprising possibilities that can arise as a result.

Group of people working together in a workshop

A shoebox is just a shoebox. Isn‘t it?

A shoebox seems straightforward enough.
In the workshop, however, it becomes the starting point for a thought experiment.

What happens when we find new ways to use an object that we thought we knew well?

The aim is to observe the points at which our thinking is limited and the assumptions we hold without realising it.

Nobody tells us what a shoebox should be like.

Yet we all quickly form an idea of what it is.

In the workshop, this invisible concept becomes a physical reality: the shoebox.
It represents patterns of thought that are so self-evident that we no longer notice them.

These questions can be applied to situations that have nothing to do with shoes.

Which ‚shoebox‘ are you currently using?

When a shoebox suddenly turns up at a meeting

But what would happen if we applied the same perspective to real-life situations?

1

A product has been optimised for years despite stagnating demand.

2

A team is searching for the right AI tool without questioning existing processes.

3

A company is looking for managers who ‘fit the culture’ and is surprised by the lack of diversity.

What assumption lies behind this?

What if this assumption were not true for a moment?

What remains?

The Shoebox Experiment does not offer a method for solving every problem.

Instead, it leaves you with a question that you can continue to explore even after the workshop has ended.

Which shoebox am I using right now?

A previously invisible assumption can suddenly become apparent.
This is how the possibility of thinking differently begins.

Mock Up Cover Buch

From the book. To the room.

“Die Kunst, eine Schuhschachtel neu zu erfinden” explores the same question from a different perspective:

What are you overlooking right now?

The Shoebox Experiment turns this question from the book into a shared experience.

A shoebox that stays

At the end, participants take home a small shoebox.

It serves as a reminder of a question.

Which shoebox am I using right now?

For teams, workshops and events

The Shoebox Experiment is ideal for teams and groups looking to challenge their existing ways of thinking and develop new perspectives on their work.
